E-S.C.OUT was a success! : 8/27/2009

European – Sports, Culture and Outdoors was an eight-day camp (ten-day for us Xaghra Scouts), held in Ramla Valley between the 16th and 25th of August, and now it’s over L. It was funded by the EU under Youth in Action 1.1 and involved twenty-two scouts from Portugal, Turkey, Ireland and Malta living together and experiencing adventure, the sun, the sea and having fun. Its main aims were to promote youth participation, to turn ideas into action by planning, organizing and managing, to co-operate in a team, and to make each participant appreciate other cultures. This was all done through sports and intercultural dialogue.
The activities done during those eight days were many, some of which being pioneering, rafting, voluntary work, barbecues, scavenger hunts, campfires, discussions, beach games, international nights and visiting the President of Malta. Apart from that there was swimming, baking in the sun, exploring Gozo’s beaches and caves, partying and having fun.
During all of that the participants did not hesitate from integrating with each other, showing the rest of the team the beauty of their cultures, laughing together and having fun. Everything was shared during those days and nights, so much so that we started off as friends, but finished off as family. Tears were shed, and we’ll always remember our “Super Hug!” at the end. Now that all our siblings from abroad left us Xaghra ones behind, we all know that no matter how much we cry and how much we miss those who are gone, we’ll always have each other to hug J These ten days have proven to us that we can in fact do the impossible. We’re only students and we managed to solely create such an amazing project. This is what team work can do, and we all know that whatever happens, we’re all in it together.

E-S.C.OUT and the President : 8/26/2009

A courtesy call by the participants of the EU's Youth in Action Programme was given to the President of the Republic of Malta Dr. George Abela. In fact all the Contingents (Leaders and Participants) were present - naming Malta, Ireland, Portugal and Turkey.

After the President’s welcome notes, a small speech by the E-S.C.OUT Programme Manager Ms. Daniela Sultana was given as she mentioned the priorities that such programmes built towards the participation of the young and cultural diversity. "Diversity in unity. Unity in Diversity for our Europe" has been the last words after which Dr Abela smiles as he wears the E-S.C.OUT special occasion scarf. The end of the visit has been amazing as each participant from each country told their experience here in Malta.
